Walsh: GOP Congress would laugh at a Sanders agendaMANCHESTER, N.H. — Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh said a Republican Congress would laugh at Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ progressive domestic agenda, said Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is “not ready for prime time,” and predicted Republicans would fight dirty in a general election if Hillary Clinton — who has the mayor’s support in the 2016 race — wins the nomination. “Bernie is talking a lot of ideals,” Walsh told Boston Herald Radio. “We have a president that has been in office for seven years and has a Congress and a Senate for the last six who won’t let any of his policies move through. Bernie Sanders’ ideas, this Republican Congress, they are going to laugh at him. They are not going to let any of his stuff move forward, none of it.” Sanders has advocated single-payer health care, raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour and free college tuition among other ambitious initiatives. Walsh called the democratic-socialist “a good guy” but said his candidate has the best chance to win the White House. “I think people understand what’s at stake here, I think people like Bernie Sanders,” he said. “But they realize, in order to beat one of Republicans on the other side, the way the Republicans are attacking each other and trying to talk about how they are going to lead, I think people are getting concerned and they realize they need a candidate on the Democratic side who can actually win the election.
