LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — Channel 7 News has confirmed former Arkansas Chief Justice Jim Hannah has died at the age of 71.
Hannah was elected in 2001 as an associate justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court and won a 2004 race to become Chief Justice, taking office in Jan. 2005.
According to Talk Business & Politics, during Hannah's 37 years on the bench, he also served as a city-court judge, juvenile judge and chancery judge. He served as president of the Conference of Chief Justices and, in 2014, became chair of the board of directors of the National Center for State Courts. He was appointed by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court Judicial Conference Committee on Federal-State Jurisdiction. President Obama appointed him to chair the State Justice Institute.
Hannah resigned from the court August 2015 to focus on his health.
