FARGO – A Fargo man said Monday he’s chosen to run what he knows is a long-shot write-in campaign for governor because he doesn’t like what he calls a lack of choices in candidates for the race. Eugene Dumont, 70, is a retired mechanic and truck driver. It’s not his first attempt as a write-in candidate: He ran for U.S. Senate in 2012. He also ran for Fargo City Commission in 2008. Dumont says he’s a centrist who feels the people of North Dakota should have a choice. He said he’s not impressed with any of the three Republicans fighting for the party’s nomination while “the Democrats aren’t even trying to put up a fight.” The Republicans have Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, Bismarck state Rep. Rick Becker and Fargo businessman Doug Burgum running for their party’s nomination while the Democrats have yet to announce a candidate.
