A new center aimed at creating a safe space for the LGBTQ community is in the first stages of becoming a reality. The Capital City Equality Center recently received 501(c)3 status, designating it a public charity, executive director Dan Brennan said. The center will provide a space for people to meet, share experiences and support each other. “We want to give people a place they can feel comfortable,” Brennan said. “We want people to know that they have a place — a community.” The center also is envisioned as a resource for people to find jobs and groups to host meetings. Additionally, organizers plan on facilitating programs and trainings for interested organizations and businesses to gain awareness of the issues the LGBTQ community faces.
