U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Tallahassee, helped return more than $1 million in cash and benefits to people in North Florida, she announced Tuesday. Graham, who hasn’t said whether she’ll run for re-election this year, held a news conference at City Hall to tout her office’s assistance to her 2nd District constituents. A half dozen people, including veterans and others who’ve had difficulties with the federal bureaucracy, thanked her for her efforts. “This is one of the happiest days that I have had in my life actually because I am standing with a wonderful group of people that we have had the opportunity to help one way or the other," Graham said. “The best part without question of being the representative of Florida’s 2nd Congressional District is the ability we have to help people." Havana resident Richard Harris, 83, who served as a B-17 bombardier during World War II, said Graham is helping him see local specialists so he no longer has to drive to Gainesville for medical treatment through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He said he has to make the trip as often as several times a month and that other veterans are too sick or can't afford to travel for health care.
