CHEYENNE – Both chambers of the Wyoming Legislature on Wednesday defeated amendments seeking to restore cuts to the state's education budget. Earlier in the session, the Joint Appropriations Committee cut about $44 million in external cost adjustment funds for schools over the next two years. A Senate amendment Wednesday sought to restore most of those cuts; the House amendment tried to restore about half of them. Proponents of each amendment argued that, since schools already are anticipating declining enrollments due to the downturn in the energy sector, they can expect to lose funds connected to student enrollment. Thus, it would be unfair to cut funding even further.
