Senate casino bill tabled; backers will try to get more supportCONCORD — Lacking the votes to pass a casino gambling bill, Senate sponsors had the bill tabled Thursday as they try to round up the needed votes. Senate Bill 551 would allow one casino at Rockingham Park in Salem and produce about $100 million in state revenue a year, according to the bill’s prime sponsor Sen. Lou D’Allesandro, D-Manchester. Last year, Senate Bill 113 barely cleared the Senate on a 13-11 vote and contained more than one site which brought at least one if not more votes in favor. But the Senate bill permits only one casino at a specific site and at least one senator who favored last year’s proposal is not in favor of the current plan.
