Audit puts hold on millions of dollars in federal funding for Virginia Beach schools Millions of dollars in federal funding for the city’s public schools are on hold because of problems with paperwork that military parents fill out every year for their children. Federal auditors raised concerns about the format of questionnaires the division sends to each of its roughly 68,000 students to get federal impact aid. The division relies on the money to offset lost property tax revenue from families living on tax-exempt federal property, such as military bases. The same document had been used for more than 23 years and had made it through past federal audits, division officials said. “We were surprised,” Superintendent Aaron Spence told School Board members recently.
