SALEM, N.H. — The state Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the town will receive another chance to recoup $809,000 in a lengthy legal dispute between the Local Government Center and eight New Hampshire communities. In its nine-page ruling, the high court determined that the case would be heard again after a hearing officer from the Secretary of State's Office erred. Salem and the seven other communities claim they are still owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in overpayments to the LGC, which manages health insurance pools for municipal employees and retirees. In 2012, the state Bureau of Securities Regulation ordered the LGC must refund $33.2 million in surplus money it collected from communities.
