The Bismarck teachers union spoke out again Monday against proposed changes to the school district’s leave policy. Mike Geiermann, an attorney representing the Bismarck Education Association, urged the Bismarck School Board to honor an agreement made during negotiations last summer to hold off on changing any policies regarding sick leave. The school board is considering revising its policy to define how sick leave can be used. The proposed changes also address employee absences for health problems and funerals, as well as workers who leave the school district but are rehired within a year. Geiermann echoed comments from the union’s president made at the last school board meeting, citing minutes from a negotiations meeting that took place in the summer of 2015. The school district’s head negotiator said he indicated the district’s sick leave policy would remain unchanged for two years until the next round of negotiations.
