Schenectady woman faces prison for hate crime against elderlyALBANY — A Schenectady woman pleaded guilty this week to attempted grand larceny and conspiracy as a hate crime against the elderly, prosecutors said. Jessica Paradiso, 27, admitted scamming elderly victims out of more than $40,000 for home repair work she and others never performed, District Attorney David Soares' office said. Paradiso was among seven people charged this summer with deliberately seeking out elderly victims — a case notable because of Soares' decision to apply state hate crimes law, which is applicable to people accused of targeting their victims based on age. Paradiso's victims lived in Bethlehem, Albany and Colonie and were promised work such as driveway sealing and foundation and roof repair, prosecutors said.
