House passes bill to shine light on fundraisers during legislative sessionIt wouldn’t stop West Virginia lawmakers and statewide elected officials from holding fundraisers during legislative sessions in Charleston, but a bill passed Tuesday would require politicians to make their campaign activities a matter of public record. Members of the House of Delegates voted 95-4 to approve legislation (HB 4001) that increases disclosure requirements for fundraisers and campaign contributions during regular and special legislative sessions. Lawmakers and statewide elected officials often raise more money at fundraisers during the legislative session because lobbyists and other politicians are in town at the time. “The bill does not prohibit anything,” said Delegate John Shott, R-Mercer. “It’s a disclosure bill intended to create increased transparency, and hopefully, restore some level of trust in government.” See more at: www.wvgazettemail.com/news/20160223/house-passes-bill-to-shine-light-on-fundraisers-during-legislative-session
