Senator’s petition says Sunday vote on HB 4012 violates his religious freedomSen. John Unger, D-Berkeley, has a hearing set in Kanawha Circuit Court on Friday on his motion for an injunction to keep the state Senate from meeting this Sunday, a meeting he says would violate his exercise of religious freedom. Unger said Wednesday he believes the Senate Judiciary Committee will take up the “Religious Freedom Restoration Act” (HB 4012) on Thursday, putting it on a timeline to potentially be up for a passage vote in the Senate during the planned Sunday evening floor session. “I couldn’t be back in time for deliberations on that bill,” Unger said Wednesday. In a statement Wednesday, Senate President Bill Cole, R-Mercer, dismissed Unger’s lawsuit as “political gamesmanship” and a “publicity stunt.” See more at: www.wvgazettemail.com/news/20160224/senators-petition-says-sunday-vote-on-hb-4012-violates-his-religious-freedom
