As Cabela’s stays silent, thousands of jobs hang in the balance across Nebraska The Sidney, Nebraska, headquarters isn’t the only thing at stake as Cabela’s considers a sale of the company or parts of it. Hundreds of jobs in several Nebraska cities also could be on the line. The company employs hundreds outside of Sidney — in Lincoln, where its World’s Foremost Bank operations are located; at call centers in Grand Island, Kearney and North Platte; and at a merchandise return center in Oshkosh. Cabela’s is being pushed to make big changes after an activist investor, New York-based hedge fund Elliott Management, announced an 11 percent stake in the company in October. Since then, the retailer has said it will undergo a strategic review, which often results in a sale of a company or parts of it. Cabela’s wouldn’t comment for this story.
