For Clinton vs. Sanders, a Super Tuesday haul in Texas, 10 states
On the final day of campaigning before the Super Tuesday primaries, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton won her 19th Texas delegate — before a single state vote was counted — when U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett announced his support for the former secretary of state. As a so-called superdelegate, the Austin Democrat is free to choose which candidate to support at his party’s nominating convention in July, and Doggett’s endorsement — delivered Monday at a San Antonio rally with former President Bill Clinton — displayed the deep party support that Hillary Clinton is counting on to carry Texas. “I’m here today as a progressive Democrat to offer my full support for Hillary Clinton,” Doggett said. “As a progressive, I want all the progress we can get as soon as we can get it for the families that I represent.” While Clinton’s campaign continued its barrage of almost daily events featuring surrogates in cities across Texas — including acting stars Mary Steenburgen and Ted Danson and ice skater Michelle Kwan — U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders continued to rely on his core of enthusiastic, often young volunteers to make direct contact with voters.
