CONCORD — A law making sex with animals a crime in New Hampshire is necessary because existing cruelty statutes don’t enable effective prosecution of the crime, according to supporters of House Bill 1547, “an act prohibiting bestiality.” They told the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee on Monday that stronger protections for animals are needed. “Although we might not want to acknowledge it, bestiality exists in New Hampshire,” said Democratic State Rep. Katherine Rogers of Concord. New Hampshire is one of only 10 states in which bestiality is not specifically outlawed, Rogers said, as she described online forums and websites that promote the practice, with more than 300 replies or profiles from people who say they live in the Granite State.
