Already, 2016 is proving to be the sort of election year in which anything can happen. A reality TV star leading his party’s field of presidential candidates! A Pennsylvania Attorney General eyeing a re-election bid while under indictment! And if things get really crazy … it might even matter who Pennsylvania primary voters choose for president! The April 26 primary ballot is far from set for voters in 2016: Pennsylvania candidates don’t even begin circulating petitions until January 26. Pundits say the presidential field, at least, will almost certainly be narrowed as the results of earlier state primaries and caucuses play out. Even so, veteran Muhlenberg College pollster Chris Borick said: “This year is so different from anything I’ve ever seen that it wouldn’t shock me if Pennsylvania still matters” by the time of its primary. “It would be the first time in decades that we were relevant on the Republican side.” So far, businessman and TV star Donald Trump has led in polls of voters across the state and country alike. But April is a long way away, noted Republican strategist Chris Nicholas. “Donald Trump could resonate here, but he’s been buoyed because there are so many other candidates.
