CHEYENNE – Wyoming’s 2016 legislative sessions ended Friday evening as lawmakers expressed a mixture of relief, satisfaction and disappointment in their work over the last month. “I am pleased with how it came out,” said Speaker of the House Rep. Kermit Brown, R-Laramie. “I’m not pleased with everything, but as a body of work, I think we did really well.” The legislators entered the session facing some of the deepest economic worries the state has seen in years, or even decades. The downturn in the oil, gas and coal markets caused a $465 million revenue shortfall for the upcoming two-year period. And the prospect that the energy problems will continue – or even worsen – in coming years prompted lawmakers to consider several “austerity” measures to balance the budget.
