A politician and a citizen sue state over work on Capitol
CHEYENNE – A state lawmaker and a private citizen are suing Gov. Matt Mead and legislative leadership over an allegation they improperly awarded contracts for the $300 million Capitol Square Project.
Rep. Gerald Gay, R-Casper, and Evanston resident Karl Allred filed the civil complaint Thursday in Wyoming’s First Judicial District Court in Cheyenne.
The lawsuit claims the state leaders didn’t follow the state’s competitive bidding requirements when approving contracts for the construction work and temporary lease agreements related to the ongoing project to renovate the state Capitol and Herschler Building.
“There is evidence that constitutional guidelines for large investments were forgotten, bypassed or not used,” Gay said. “Because of the amounts of money involved in this, it has become a concern.”
