Two deputy state auditors have been indicted by a Hinds County grand jury for first degree hindrance of prosecution. An indictment shows Deputy state Auditor David Huggins and co-defendant Karei McDonald, who is listed as a deputy state auditor for investigations, were indicted Feb. 26. Details are sketchy about what led to the indictment. The indictment allegedly comes out of an investigation by Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith involving the Downtown Jackson Partners. Smith couldn't be reached Monday. Mississippi Office of the State Auditor spokeswoman Kelley Ryan said Monday she was unaware of the matter and had no immediate comment. Later, Ryan said it was a personnel matter and the office would have no comment.
