OPD: 17-year-old driving stolen vehicle shot by cop during traffic stopA 17-year-old driving a stolen vehicle was shot by an Orlando police officer Saturday morning after a traffic stop went awry, according to officials. The teen was shot after officers with the department's Tactical Unit, which typically targets high-crime areas, attempted to stop the white Dodge Challenger at the North Lane Plaza shortly after midnight, according to police. Two officers, Jonathan Mills and James Hyland, saw the teen reversing into a parking spot in front of a Kwik Stop when Hyland noticed he was not wearing a seat belt, according to the arrest affidavit. Hyland initiated the traffic stop by turning on his lights and siren and parking his unmarked police car in front of the Challenger's driver side, according to the report.
