Even in a city where almost no one drinks straight from the tap, the bad news about Dan Meyer's water came as a shock. A Flint water response team appeared on his front porch last week and told Meyer it had important news: His home had elevated lead levels exceeding federal guidelines. The shocker came when Meyer compared the notice with his mail from that same morning. According to the mailed letter from the state, Meyer's water was safe from lead contamination. "I feel like there is not a lot of organization going on," Meyer, a fourth-year medical student at Michigan State University who rents his home, fumed to a gaggle of state environmental protection employees, a state health worker, contract plumber and Flint police officer crammed into his living room.
