House Republicans tour Flint water plant ahead of water crisis hearingFLINT, MI -- Republican lawmakers made a stop in Flint ahead of a U.S. House committee hearing that will include testimony from Gov. Rick Snyder and former Emergency Manager Darnell Earley. U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, along with Michigan Republican Reps. Bill Huizenga, Tim Walberg and John Moolenaar, and Democratic Rep Dan Kildee took a tour of the Flint water plant on Saturday, March 12. Chaffetz is the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, which is holding hearings on the city's water crisis. During the water plant tour Chaffetz asked questions about the history of the plant and future plans to correct the lead leaching into Flint resident's homes. He said he wanted the tour to give him a better understanding of the water crisis. "Well we better darn well understand how we got into this mess so that it never, ever happens again," Chaffetz said. "It's really hard to comprehend how pervasive it is. I just can't imagine my own family having to go through this for what will be years. We want to help. We want to do it in a bipartisan way. There's plenty of fault to go around, but we want to hold people accountable. It's not good enough to just say 'Oops' people need to be held accountable and we want to do that."
