Dispute between New Hampshire Young Republicans factions leads to police probeA financial dispute stemming from a struggle between two factions vying for control of the New Hampshire Young Republicans organization has recently been brought to the attention of the Concord Police Department, WMUR.com has learned. At issue is the rightful owner of $5,000-$6,000 that was in the group’s treasury when the battle between the two factions surfaced about a year ago. The result was a split of the group into two, with each group calling itself the New Hampshire Young Republicans. Concord Police Lt. Tim O’Malley told WMUR.com this week, “I can confirm that we are looking into a matter involving that group,” referring to the Young Republicans. And he said the department’s treatment of the matter would be accurately described as an investigation. O’Malley would not comment on details of the investigation. Adam Lord, a Manchester accountant, is treasurer of a NHYR group that is recognized by the New Hampshire Republican Party and is chaired by state Rep. Joe Sweeney of Salem. Lord said the chairman of the rival NHYR group, Robert Burns of Bedford, “hacked” the Sweeney-chaired NHYR’s PayPal account last fall.
