Arkansas justice of the peace candidate told she couldn't vote for herselfLITTLE ROCK — A candidate for justice of the peace in southwest Arkansas never got the chance to vote for herself after a poll worker distributed incorrect ballots. Phyllis Jackson lost the Lafayette County race by 17 votes. A handful of county-level ballot problems afflicted the state's March 1 primary, such as candidates' names misprinted or listed incorrectly. In Florida, a woman said she was told the election wasn't for Democratic voters, just Republicans. Experts say election officials often have trouble finding volunteers in remote areas. National voting-rights advocates say complaints are filed every election, and more money needs to be invested in training poll workers nationwide. Jackson said a poll worker claimed her race wasn't until November. A Lafayette County election official said about six people got the wrong ballot.
