CONCORD — The push is on for the Senate to approve Medicaid expansion as lawmakers, advocates and providers said the program will help stabilize health insurance costs and fight the state opioid addiction crisis. While the majority of Senate Republicans do not support extending the New Hampshire Health Protection Program for another two years, at least five Republicans and all 10 Democrats do support reauthorizing health coverage for more than 48,000 low-income adults for two more years. One of Gov. Maggie Hassan’s top priorities this session, the governor said Tuesday she would sign House Bill 1696 if the Senate does not change the bill passed by the House last week. “It is clear that our bipartisan expansion plan is making a real difference for hard-working Granite Staters, boosting our economy and playing a critical role in our efforts to combat the heroin and opioid crisis,” said Hassan’s communications director, William Hinkle, on Tuesday. “Reauthorizing expansion remains a top priority for Gov.Hassan, and she will sign the legislation if it passes as currently proposed.” See more at: www.unionleader.com/article/20160330/NEWS0621/160329203
