EDINBURG — An 8-year-old girl at the center of a custody battle was temporarily ordered Wednesday into the custody of her father, a registered sex offender.
Hours before, Hidalgo County Court-at-Law No. 7 Judge Sergio Valdez had ordered the girl be returned to her grandmother’s care pending a hearing April 5, when a determination could be made as to where she should live.
But without notifying the grandmother’s lawyers, Valdez later rescinded the order, according to court records.
On Thursday, the case was moved to Hidalgo County Court-at-Law No. 5 Judge Arnoldo Cantu, who ordered the girl be placed back in the custody of her grandmother.
