UT police investigating death of woman found on campus as homicide
University of Texas President Gregory L. Fenves called Tuesday “a tragic day” after campus police found the body of a young woman at Waller Creek. Authorities said they are investigating the death as a homicide. “My heart and our hearts go with the victim and the family,” Fenves told reporters Tuesday afternoon at the university’s Police Department headquarters. “This is a tragic day for every student who walks through our beautiful campus and expects to be safe.” Officials withheld the name of the woman, who Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services officials said was in her 20s, pending notification of her next of kin. Neither university officials nor Austin police would say whether the woman was a student enrolled at the university. At 10:46 a.m., UT police responded to reports of a body in the creek west of the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center, near the intersection of 21st Street and San Jacinto Boulevard. The vigil will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the university’s East Mall in front of the Liberal Arts Builing, near the Winship Drama Building, where Weiser was last seen Sunday night. According to the vigil’s Facebook event page, more than 800 people have said they would attend. UT President Greg L.
