JUNEAU — With less than two weeks left in the regular 90-day session, the House held its very first hearing on Gov. Bill Walker’s income tax on Tuesday night. House Bill 250 has gathered dust in the House throughout the session as the Legislature rolled revenue-generating measures to the bottom of their agenda and prioritized making cuts to the operating budget. The presentation to the House Finance Committee was a short by-the-numbers introduction of the measure. It taxes any income made in Alaska, whether it be wages or rental income for example, at 6 percent of the federal liability. According to the presentation put on by the administration, the bill would raise about $200 million per year once it’s implemented.
