State House, Senate leaders hope to compromise on budget for a vote next TuesdayFRANKFORT -- Legislative leaders on Wednesday renewed their efforts to try to break an impasse in coming up with a two-year, $21 billion budget for the state. Senate President Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, said House and Senate leaders of both parties met throughout the day about various parts of the budget. “It’s gone very well, in my opinion,” he told reporters about 5:30 p.m. Asked about the chances of getting a compromise budget between the House and Senate in time for lawmakers to vote on it next Tuesday, the final day of the 2016 General Assembly, Stivers said, “The chances are still good. Information is being exchanged, ideas are being discussed and there have been some very good conversations today.” He said the conversations included talks with Republican Gov. Matt Bevin.
