Cruz gets a frosty welcome in the Bronx, while Clinton touts her ‘New York values’WASHINGTON – Sen. Ted Cruz kicked off campaigning in New York with a frosty reception in the Bronx on Wednesday, where he was called out by protesters and reporters for his comments on immigration and “New York values.” Coming off a win in Wisconsin Tuesday, Cruz is looking to capitalize on that momentum in Donald Trump’s home state, which votes on presidential candidates April 19. According to recent polling averages, Trump has more than half of the Republican vote, while Cruz is polling dead last with less than 20 percent. “For all the people that are here and want to believe in this show, Ted Cruz has no business being in the Bronx,” yelled one protester at a Sabrosura restaurant event. “We are one of the poorest congressional districts in the country, and to receive this right-wing bigot is an insult to the whole community.” Hecklers yelled, “This is an immigrant community,” as Cruz arrived. Cruz faced low event turnout and canceled one event at the Bronx Lighthouse College Preparatory Academy after students threatened a walkout.
