Lawmakers advance bill to ease Nebraska's wind power regulationsWind power supporters say a measure advanced Thursday by the Legislature would make Nebraska more competitive with nearby states. The bill — which overcame a filibuster on a day gusts outside the Capitol exceeded 50 mph — would exempt private wind energy developments from having to apply with the Nebraska Power Review Board, an agency that regulates the state's unique publicly owned utility industry. Eliminating the requirement would help Nebraska lure more wind power facilities, spurring some economic development and diversifying the state's own energy offerings, supporters say. Nebraska's wind energy potential ranks third among states, yet its development lags behind others in the Southwest Power Pool, a regional transmission group.
