The first lady brought her American Garden Tour to the rural school to highlight the efforts of Americans to eat healthy by growing their own fruits and vegetables. “I’m proud of you for the work you’re doing,” Obama told the sixth-graders. First in the greenhouse planting seeds and later at the school’s raised beds, Obama worked alongside youngsters who are learning about gardening in the school’s Farm to School Program. “She was so nice, I mean really, really nice,” said Leslie Singleton, who got to work on the same raised bed as Obama. She and classmate Kaili Williams both admitted to having had a hard time sleeping Wednesday night knowing what was set to happen Thursday.
