"Split" the Savannah Banana debuted Friday afternoon at Heard Elementary School.

The Savannah Bananas, a new team in the Coastal Plain League for college players, have announced the name of their mascot is Split.
In the past week, more than 1,200 suggestions came in through the team website for the mascot’s name. Jennifer Terry from Norman Park was the first fan to submit Split on the morning the contest was announced and will win five game memberships for the 2016 season.
“Split was by far the most popular name suggested in our contest, and we feel it is the perfect fit for our Bananas mascot,” said team president Jared Orton.
The mascot was introduced at Heard Elementary School on Friday before an audience of students and staff.
