MONTGOMERY — A bill filed in the Alabama Senate on Thursday would roll back some of the large raises Gov. Robert Bentley gave his Cabinet members this year, and prevent similar big bumps in pay in the future. Most of Bentley’s 22-member Cabinet received raises this year. For four members, the pay increase was worth more than $73,000 a year. The raises were allowed under 2015 legislation approved by lawmakers, but several said last month, after seeing the size of some of the increases, Bentley had jumped several steps in the new pay scale created by the State Personnel Board, and gave out larger raises than they intended. “I heard from a lot of constituents who were upset and angry about the size of the raises,” Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, said Thursday. “I was certainly shocked by them. They were not within the salary scale that was presented to the Legislature during the legislative process.
