PROVIDENCE — Governor Raimondo, the state’s first female governor, called for electing the country’s first female president on Thursday as Hillary Clinton’s campaign opened its statewide headquarters in Providence. “There is so much at stake in this election,” Raimondo said. “Think about the alternatives.” Raimondo said those stakes include “college affordability,” "economic equality,” and “rebuilding infrastructure.” She said, “You have to put someone in the White House who can deliver,” and she argued that Clinton, a former secretary of state and U.S. senator, is the most qualified candidate. Earlier in the day, Clinton’s rival in the Democratic primary, Bernie Sanders, lashed out at her Wall Street ties, saying, “I will not be hustling money from the wealthy and the powerful.” When asked to respond, Raimondo said Clinton “has been fighting for children her whole life, she has been fighting for women’s economic equality her whole life, she has a record of caring for and taking action on income equality. That is what I know she will do in the White House.” Read more: www.providencejournal.com/news/20160407/hillary-clinton-opens-providence-headquarters
