A $1 million donation in honor of the late Beau Biden will provide a safe haven for academics living in danger in their own country. The endowment, made by an anonymous person, will enable the Institute of International Education's Scholar Rescue Fund to rescue one scholar in danger each year, as part of the organization's work to ensure there is always a place where persecuted academics can find safe haven. The fund allows scholars to continue their academic careers, teaching and research at safe haven universities – all with the goal of saving them so they can continue to educate future generations, and in some cases, help rebuild their home countries after the crisis and conflict ends there. Through this donation, preference will be given to those scholars and universities that relate to the former Delaware Attorney General's life and service, according to a release issued by the institute. This could include selecting scholars from Iraq where Biden was deployed to while in the Delaware Army National Guard and placing them in colleges such as the University of Delaware, the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated from, or the Syracuse University College of Law, where he got his law degree. www.delawareonline.com/story/news/local/2016/04/08/donation-honoring-beau-biden-helps-scholars-danger/82800772/
