Utah County GOP chairman defends requirement of candidates to sign fitness pledgesIn response to backlash received over "fitness pledges," the Utah County Republican Chairman, Craig Frank, released a statement Friday in defense of the way the party bylaws are being enforced. A new interpretation of the UCRC bylaws has Utah County candidates signing party fitness pledges before being allowed to participate in the county convention on April 16. “Much of what was discussed in various media and social media forums was miscommunicated, misunderstood, and misrepresented by conversation participants,” Frank said in the statement. The pledge, among other things, requires candidates to sign a document saying they will refrain from conduct that would embarrass the party, and will not support non-Republican Party candidates.
