Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland reported today that his campaign for U.S. Senate has $2.7 million in the bank – far less than the $13.5 million Sen. Rob Portman has to spend on his re-election bid. Strickland, a Democrat who hopes to unseat Portman in November, announced he had raised more than $1.5 million between Jan. 1 and March 31. The campaign also announced that fundraising more than tripled during the period when Portman announced he would not consider voting for President Barack Obama’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court. The Strickland campaign raised more than 29,000 contributions – more than 90 percent under $50. “The strong, grassroots support our campaign is receiving is more proof that Ted’s message of fighting for working families is resonating with Ohioans,” said Strickland for Senate Campaign Manager Rebecca Pearcey. “Ohioans across the state are backing Ted because they know he’s a champion for working people — that’s where he’s from, that’s who he cares about that’s who he'll always put first in the Senate.” Read more: www.dispatch.com/content/blogs/the-daily-briefing/2016/04/4-8-2016-strickland-money.html
