EDINBURG — Nearly three years after Jorge Rodriguez Olivarez’s body was found in a field in rural San Juan, jurors found the man accused of his death, Everett James Morris, guilty of murder. Morris’ wife, Janie, sitting a few feet behind him and who along with her daughter Candice last week invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, didn’t show any emotion as the verdict was read Monday inside the auxiliary courtroom. Members of Olivarez’s family, who had endured nearly three years of court proceedings leading up to the week-long trial, let out a collective sigh and hugged each other outside the courtroom. Mary Olivarez, the victim’s sister, dabbed her tears away moments after the verdict was read and stood in disbelief just outside the courtroom.
