John Bel Edwards spent about $1.11 million on his inauguration festivities and other expenses as he prepared to take office earlier this year. Edwards, by law, was required to fund transition and inauguration activities with private dollars — not taxpayer funds — and to disclose details about how much was spent and who helped cover the costs. The disclosure report was filed with the Ethics Administration in March ahead of the governor’s 60-day deadline but had not previously been reported in the media. Based on the Ethics report, Edwards raised $1.4 million to put toward inaugural festivities and his staff’s “transition” efforts during the 51 days between his Nov. 21 election and his Jan. 11 inauguration.
