BATON ROUGE — An equal pay bill by state Sen. JP Morrell and supported by Gov. John Bel Edwards designed to narrow the wage gap between men and women in Louisiana has been scheduled for a hearing by the full Senate here Tuesday. "Up or down, I'm going with it," said Morrell, D-New Orleans. That measure and another bill that would set a state minimum wage higher than the federal requirement were key planks in Edwards' platform during last year's campaign and emphasized again by the governor when this legislative session began last month. "We're dead last in the nation — 51st when you include Washington, D.C. — with women earning only 65 cents on the dollar compared to men," said Edwards, a Democrat. "We have to fix that."
