Lawmakers approve bill to revamp Learning Community, end controversial common levyLINCOLN — The Nebraska Legislature on Wednesday ended a controversial experiment with pooling metro-area taxes to help high-poverty school districts like the Omaha Public Schools. Lawmakers voted 40-7 to pass a bill scrapping the seven-year-old Learning Community’s common property tax levy. Legislative Bill 1067 now heads to Gov.
