Legislature debates bill to end lunches funded by lobbyists but doesn't vote on measureLINCOLN — A debate without a vote in the Nebraska Legislature can be like a slice of pie without the a la mode. State lawmakers engaged in a brief discussion Wednesday about a resolution to end lunches paid for by lobbyists and served to senators in the State Capitol. But they moved on without taking a vote, much to the surprise and chagrin of the resolution’s sponsor, Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha. Legislative Resolution 414 was one of three resolutions given a 30-minute time limit on Wednesday’s agenda. With senators still waiting to speak about free lunches at the 30-minute mark, the next resolution was taken up without a vote on the Chambers’ proposal. “I just had the shoe of the speaker applied to my posterior without warning,” Chambers said.
