Bill to issue work licenses to young immigrants heads to Ricketts, a vocal opponentLINCOLN — Against the wishes of Gov. Pete Ricketts, Nebraska lawmakers on Wednesday passed a measure that would allow young immigrants to obtain professional and commercial licenses. Legislative Bill 947 passed the last of three rounds of consideration in the Nebraska Legislature on a 33-11 vote. But the bill’s fate is unclear as it heads to the governor’s desk. Though a vocal opponent of the measure, Ricketts through his spokesman Wednesday again declined to say whether he’d veto it. The governor vetoed a similar bill last year, which provides driver’s licenses to young people in the federal DACA program, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
