MONTGOMERY — A north Alabama lawmaker who wants abortion clinics barred from being near schools said Wednesday he’d be agreeable to letting the Huntsville clinic remain at its location. Senate Bill 205 prohibits the renewal of clinic licenses if they’re located within 2,000 feet of a K-8 public school. Sen. Paul Sanford, R-Huntsville, has said to his knowledge, the legislation would impact only the Huntsville clinic. The bill already has cleared the Senate. At a House Health Committee public hearing, Rep. Laura Hall, D-Huntsville, pointed out the Alabama Women’s Center for Reproductive Alternatives was forced to move in 2014 from downtown Huntsville in order to comply with the 2013 Women’s Health and Safety Act and its regulations on building standards.
