The Metro Council is expected to approve a $2.1 million settlement Tuesday to resolve a wage dispute lawsuit involving Davidson County correction officers. The settlement would be one of the largest in the government's history and the largest Metro Attorney Jon Cooper said he could remember in his 15-year tenure. Hundreds of correction officers who work in five Nashville jail facilities sued in 2011, saying the government did not pay them hourly wages outlined in the Metro Government pay plan. A jury ruled in the employees' favor in August, leading to settlement talks. An analysis by Metro Council attorney Mike Jameson recommended the council approve the total $2.1 million, saying that it would be a risk to further defend the Metro pay plan. The analysis notes that a federal judge has ruled against Metro multiple times, and says another ruling in favor of the employees could leave Metro Government on the hook for up to $8 million.
