GLOCESTER – On behalf of residents in Burrillville and Glocester, two state legislators are speaking out against an application to build a 1,000 megawatt power plant in the town of Burrillville, about four to five miles from the Glocester town line. Invenergy Thermal Development LLC, based in Chicago, has filed an application with the state’s Energy Facilities Siting Board to construct an 850-1,000 megawatt power plant, located on the Spectra Energy Algonquin Compressor Station site on Wallum Lake Road, Route 100, in the village of Pascoag. “Clean River Energy Center,” as it’s called, would run on natural gas and would be the state’s largest power plant. In a letter to the Energy Facilities Siting Board dated April 7, Sen. Paul Fogarty, a Democrat representing Glocester, Burrillville and North Smithfield, and Rep. Cale Keable, a Democrat representing Burrillville and Glocester, are urging the board to reject Invenergy’s application.
