There are precious few large open spaces left in the Newark area and a group of residents want to make sure they don't vanish. They are asking state and local governments for millions of dollars to preserve the space from development. Two tracts in particular are in danger of becoming subdivisions. The grassroots efforts have coalesced around the development rights for the Newark Country Club property as well as an initiative to stymie pending plans to build hundreds of homes on land that housed the now-defunct Our Lady of Grace Home for Children in Ogletown.
