Scott Wagner, R-York, during last weekend's Republican State Committee meeting, where they found him with this to say about Gov. Tom Wolf and the current state of budget talks: Subtle, eh? Putting aside the fact that it's entirely unclear when, or if, Senate Republicans (who worked with Wolf on the now-scuttled 'framework') had the Guv on "on the floor" with a proverbial boot to his throat, the Wolfies went predictably incandescent at Wagner's remarks. In a statement, administration spokesman Mark Nicastre said Wolf "has been fighting to fund our schools and eliminate the deficit, and he has made compromises on policies ranging from liquor reform to pension reform to the severance tax. "This rhetoric shows exactly what the problem is in Harrisburg and who is responsible for the extended budget impasse," he added. And, in a statement, Pa. Democratic Chairman Marcel Groen piled on for good measure: "The Republican party should be ashamed not only of its violent rhetoric but of bragging about their record of ballooning budget deficits and protecting oil and gas companies at the expense of our school kids," he said.
